Think Before You Read & Respond

I got an email today from some guy from another social network who read some of my books and relayed to me that my stories had too much profanity. That he had lived a hard life & he was appalled by my use of words.
First off I write what I write. I don’t regret or apologize for what I write. I always list that certain books have “Adult Content” so if you can’t understand what that means then maybe you shouldn’t attempt reading.
Second I wrote a Young Adult adventure/mystery book, you can always read that if the others aren’t to your taste.
Third, don’t play the I’ve had a hard life card with me. I don’t know many who haven’t had a hard life in one form or another. Why the hell did he think I wrote my stories in the first place, because it was damn cheaper than therapy.

The Last One Has to Come

When you write a book series, it's inevitable that it has to come to
an end. It's the same with everything in life. Though that thought is disturbing
sometimes for well expected reasons, but they do.

As I sit writing the last story in the 'WAF Journey' series, I ponder on many things
that have ended in my life. Some were a blessing, others....well not so much. But
writing this story, this ending, is the hardest one.

I know how it begins and I know how it will end, but filling in the space between
is very hard.

I won't give any spoiler alerts but those who have read the first three know that
this man's life hasn't turned out, as a lot of our lives have, the way he expected
and this final story may be his hardest to deal with yet.

So for everyone and every writer who may be battling the series ending blues, I
understand what you're going through. Still it makes it no easier.

A New Feel Good

I'm sure most of you authors & writers have experienced this, but to see & physically touch a book you wrote, in print is like an orgasm. Well maybe that is a bit of a stretch, but it's still a great feeling.

I've written music & have released it on CD with just as much creative exhilaration, but having accomplished a new medium is a new great feeling. And you may not get a lot of those in life.

Trying Something Different

I just put my story "A Journey I Can't Escape" in video
format on youtube.

http://youtu.be/LmRoMju-H8s

It's a bit different, with a scrolling text that is easy & slow
enough to read. A little background music. Have a drink
and enjoy the read.

Hope you take some time to check it out & let some feedback

What To Write

Have you ever sat staring out a window or at a wall and
wonder what is the next line to this story or song?

Well I have many times. Does it drive me crazy? Hell yes
but I've found the less you think about it the quicker it all comes
together.
I know you've probably heard this a million times, but it's true. Put
the project down, have a drink. Listen to some music, your choice,
and let your mind wonder. Smoke some weed if it helps.
Get all the crap out of the way. Write the crap down if it helps. Sometimes
that crap may be useful at another time.

Sometimes your mind gets overloaded with everyday shit, I know mine
does. And you can't get to what you need with all that going on in your
head. No one can. It's not a crime to have a vice or two that gets you back
to that place where your thoughts are moving in the direction you need
them to be moving.

I personally like to have more than one project going on at any given time.
That crap I mentioned that's blocking one may be useful in another.

So my point was, don't just sit and stare when you find yourself blocked.
Do something about it, what that something is? Well that's yours to figure
out.

A Message To Writer's Forums

Writer Forums or Book Forums, or whatever you call your site that
is meant for writers &/or publishers.

Do us authors a big favor. If there is a genre that you don't wish
to be on your site in any posts, you need to list the in the intro
somewhere.

Don't waste the authors time by letting us register, confirm, write a bio,
make & upload a certain sized picture, list our books, upload
a portion of or description of our books, just to turn around the next
day and tell us you are deleting them because of language, content,
sexual situations or whatever your hangup is.

All literature isn't about wizards & fairies & monsters & killers
& robots.
They all don't have happy endings. Life is full of bad language,
explicit sex, smoking, drug use & abuse, off-color humor, etc........
They boy sometimes meets the boy of his dreams,
the girl sometimes meets the girl of hers.

So if your supposed forum can't deal with this, or if this kind of writing
offends you, then let the authors know upfront.
We really don't have a problem with that, what we do have a problem
with is our time wasted.
